Pet Photographer

I have been a photographer since 2001 and currently operate two photography businesses—Owen Imaging (professional weddings and lifestyle photography) and this biz, Kathryn Learie: Professional Pet Photography. I specialized in weddings and portraits for many years before branching out to pursue my deep love of capturing dogs and other animals, but one thing is certain: I bring a passionate focus in storytelling and an unwavering love affair with light to both styles of my professional photography. 

I have always been drawn to the fine, intimate details of human and animal behaviour and how we connect with each other and the land we stand on. I am inspired by the energy that flows around us—from the trees and the grasses to our hearts and back through our hands as we hold and interact with each other.

It was through this love of that energetic connection that I first began following dogs and light. If you’re a dog lover, I’m sure you’ll understand it when I say that there is nothing as potent or transformative or healing as dog love. It is one of the simplest, most beautiful energies in this world and I’m so grateful it led me down this road and opened me up to the world of pet photography and commercial pet photography. 

Not only is the work showcased on this pet photography site a direct reflection of the creative inspiration that animals spark in me, but it’s also a continuation of the love story of connection and light that I have always used as the basis of all my photography work. 

When I’m not travelling around or in the studio, photographing animals and people, I’m hanging with my husband, children and our sweet dog, Bella in Kamloops, BC—the beautiful city and landscape I’ve called home for many years.  

My biggest goal with pet photography is for people to associate the name Kathryn Learie, not with a photography business, but with the overwhelming love for all animals that I feel when I am photographing them.
