Let’s talk about how beautiful, compelling, and emotional fine art dog portraits can be.
Dogs just have that special something that opens us up and fills us with love, compassion, inspiration, and purpose. They have the uncanny ability to move us in ways that no other animal can. Capturing that ???—and all that a dog IS—during a dog photography session always leaves my heart full.
In-studio dog portrait sessions are always a treat. Dogs behave much differently in the studio than they do outside. Their natural curiosity to explore (and occasionally pee on) things 😝 seems much more easy-going and subdued than outdoor dog sessions. It’s pleasing to watch them settle in and relax so I can get to work capturing their beautiful, soulful selves.
I love just being able to hang out with a new dog as they explore the studio, sniff all the things, and get comfortable with the idea of hanging out with me, my camera, and their owners. If you have a dog who’s not completely trained for recall or maybe just feels a little more relaxed in an enclosed space, an in-studio fine art dog portrait session is definitely a must. Sit back and enjoy as they wander around the studio and we all get to know each other a little better.
Is there anything more magical than outdoor dog portrait sessions? Photographing dogs running around, exploring, in natural outdoor light is one of my favourite ways to spend time. I often hike around the grasslands and forest areas of Kamloops with our gorgeous girl, Bella, and bring along my camera to grab shots of her following her nose, enjoying the feeling of the wind ruffling her fur, and just being her majestic self. She’s a gift—for my entire family, but mostly for me—and she deserves to be remembered with some fine art outdoor dog portraits.
So does your best friend! If your dog loves to run and explore, has more energy than can ever be contained in-studio, or just plain thrives in nature, let’s chat about booking some outdoor dog portraits! I promise you that you’ll love them and TOTALLY enjoy the experience. I have a passion for the outdoors and our landscape! While we’re outside, dogs tend to bring out the best in us and I always keep that in mind while bringing out the best in your dog.
